THE First Minister will give an update on the coronavirus restriction levels in each local authority area later this afternoon.

Nicola Sturgeon is set to give her weekly review on the current levels in the Scottish Parliament as Scotland deals with the second wave of the pandemic.

It comes after 369 new Covid-19 cases were announced yesterday – expected to be an underestimation caused by a data processing issue.

There were also three new reported deaths among people who have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 28 days.

The First Minister’s update will be broadcast on the Scottish Parliament website from about 2.20pm, while the main news broadcasters will also show the announcement.

The National:

The National will also provide all the key details in its coronavirus live blog.

During the update Sturgeon will provide an overview of the latest Covid-19 figures – this will include the latest number of positive tests, number of people in hospital and the total number of people to die with Covid in the last 24 hours.

She is then expected to provide details on which level of restrictions each area faces. Three areas – Midlothian, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire – are known to be under discussion.

There had been calls for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to be placed in level 1, but following an increase in coronavirus cases throughout NHS Grampian there is a likelihood of them being moved into level 3.

There are 11 areas currently in level 4 – West Lothian, West Dunbartonshire, Stirling, South Lanarkshire, South Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, North Lanarkshire, Glasgow City, East Renfrewshire, East Dunbartonshire and East Ayrshire.

The First Minister has said the areas will remain with the tightest restrictions until 6pm on December 11.
