A FURTHER 50 people have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus, the First Minister has confirmed.

Speaking before FMQs, Nicola Sturgeon gave an update on the latest coronavirus figures in Scotland.

The update comes a day after the National Records of Scotland said the total number of Covid-19 deaths have surpassed 5000 – these figures differ from the Scottish Government’s as they count all deaths where the virus is mentioned on the death certificate.

There were 1089 new Covid-19 cases identified across Scotland, Sturgeon said, accounting for 4.6% of all tests carried out.

The total number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 85,612.

The number of people in hospital has fallen by 29 to 1212, while the number of people in intensive care has dropped by three to 85.
