THE First Minister has confirmed a further 717 people in Scotland have tested positive for Covid-19 – 8.3% of the total number of tests carried out.
Nicola Sturgeon said the figure is lower than the usually low figure reported on Mondays but still takes the total number of positive cases here to 82,011.
Six people who tested positive had died in the last 24 hours.
She said early data showed 220 cases in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area, 136 in NHS Lanarkshire and 101 in NHS Lothian, with the remainder spread across Scotland’s remaining health boards.
The number of patients in hospital with a confirmed case of Covid was down by 114 at 1227, with 98 in intensive care, which was down by two.
Case numbers on Mondays can be artificially lower, however the six deaths reported today take the total number of patients in Scotland who have died to 3086.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
