ANOTHER 45 people have died in Scotland after contracting coronavirus, the First Minister has announced.

The deaths, recorded overnight among people who have tested positive in the past 28 days, brings the toll under that measurement to 3188.

A further 1212 cases were also confirmed – representing 6.1% of all new tests.

Some 1207 people are in hospital with confirmed Covid-19, 28 fewer than yesterday.

Of those, 98 are in intensive care, an increase of five.

Of the new cases, 474 are in Glasgow and Greater Clyde, 231 in Lanarkshire, Lothian in 141, 76 in Ayrshrie and Arran and 76 in Fife.

The other cases are split among eight other health boards.

Nicola Sturgeon, delivering an update in the Scottish Parliament, said the R number is still thought to be “hovering” around 1, but could have dipped below that level.
