A FURTHER 39 coronavirus deaths have been recorded over 24 hours, the Scottish Government has said.

The official data showed that 1596 new Covid-19 cases have also been identified, accounting for 6.3% of all tests carried out.

There were 1245 people in hospital with coronavirus, an increase of eight on the previous day.

Meanwhile 106 people were in intensive care with Covid, eight more than on Friday.

Of all the new coronavirus cases recorded 602 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 368 were in Lanarkshire, 191 were in Lothian, 118 were in Ayrshire and Arran and 85 were in Tayside.

There were also 75 cases in Fife, 66 in Forth Valley, 31 in Grampian, 21 in Dumfries and Galloway, 20 in NHS Highland and 18 in the NHS Borders area.

The announcement comes as the UK nations banned visitors from Denmark arriving due to a new strain of coronavirus from mink “causing concern”.
