ANDREW Learmonth’s article should be read by every Scot (Sir John Curtice’s social attitudes survey reveals huge shift in indy support, November 3), together with each of the online comments (Peter A Bell and the other excellent comments) articulating the importance that we “hold fast” in our belief in the SNP to carry us to our regained independence.
This should also be read by those members of our Scottish Government, headed ably by our First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who “diminishes” the eejit in Westminster with her steady, intelligent, open and honest guidance for the sons and daughters of Scotland. Each and every one of us matter to her and each member of our Scottish Government.
However, I believe and trust that behind the scenes, resolute and brave decisions are being made with regard to our upcoming May elections (no “meek” requests will be acceptable!). These decisions should embrace the will of the Scottish people in declaring that we will not be cowed by Westminster lies and continue with the farce of “equal partnership”, which has never existed, nor ever will. All we have ever been and will continue to be are cash cows.
Many words have been written in this regard, because the lies for these centuries under the thumbs of those elites in Westminster have been believed by the people of England and some in Scotland. This “partnership” exists by the will of the four nations, not one. It is the right of anyone to walk away without the permission of any “partner”. No longer will we let them use us, thus, we will take back our sovereign right of independence. Ireland broke free of the “shackles and chains” of Westminster and have thrived.
So hold fast, dear sons and daughters of Scotland, hold fast!
Scotland’s “re-birth” is imminent and needs all of us (with the exception of the Unionists) to believe that our pride, and the right to decide for ourselves, in our country, will be restored. The people will speak and demand this is enacted.
That moment is near, when we will all witness the removal of the Union flag and the flying of our beloved, beautiful Saltire throughout this land.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
