Donald Trump was set to fly to Scotland if he lost to Hilary Clinton at the last election, a new report has revealed.

According to the New Yorker, shortly before the 2016 vote, the tycoon told Anthony Scaramucci, who served briefly as the White House communications director, that he had ordered his private plane to be readied for take-off  “so that the next morning he could fly to Scotland to play golf at his Turnberry resort.”

The revelation came in an article suggesting the President would need to go into “exile” if he lost the election to avoid “potential criminal charges”.

The President faces a tricky time, even if he is re-elected. According to a recent report in the New York Times, Trump faces payment deadlines for more than $300 million in loans that he has personally guaranteed.

The Financial Times, also suggested about $900 million worth of real-estate debt will be due within the next four years.

He is also currently in a dispute with the US Internal Revenue Service over a $100 million deduction that he has claimed on his income-tax forms.

Barbara Res, who used to work developing and managing construction projects for Trump, told the magazine that if the billionaire loses, “he’ll never, ever acknowledge it—he’ll leave the country.”

He himself has hinted that he might head overseas if defeated.

Last month, he told a rally in Georgia: "You know what? Running against the worst candidate in the history of American politics puts pressure on me

“Could you imagine if I lose? My whole life — what am I going to do? I’m going to say, I lost to the worst candidate in the history of politics! I’m not going to feel so good. Maybe I’ll have to leave the country, I don’t know."
