READERS may recall that we have been promoting the marvellous project by the Grassroots Oban for Independence group to compile and store a library of banners marking the work of the Yes movement over the years.

The National Yes Banner Library is run by Ruth Barratt and she says that the banners are one campaigning tool the movement can employ during the pandemic.

She says: “I am now making an appeal for suitable photographs to be used along with our slogans and info supporting independence. I am particularly looking for iconic Scottish images – Kelpies, Eilean Donan Castle, Edinburgh Castle, Falkirk Wheel etc.

“I also need a photo of one of our offshore wind farms with or without service ships. Also pics of people; workers, children with grandparents, young people.

“I need an elderly ex-pat couple abroad, to show the safety of pensions when living outside the UK. Bear in mind these banners will be public – children with their backs to the camera might be best and adults who don’t mind being on public banners.

“Are there any photographers out there who would be willing to donate the use of their images to the library? It needs to be given the right to use the image but we are not wanting the copyright – that remains yours.

“The images must be of a high resolution suitable for a banner size of 2m x 1m.

If you have any photos/designs you think might be useful please e-mail me on contact@grassrootsoban.scot.”
