POLICE have issued a warning to would-be revellers against attending illegal raves, after an online account claiming to be organising a gathering was reported.

According to the Glasgow Times, a member of the public reported the Instagram account Glasgow Secret Raves to the police.

The account claimed to be organising a rave for November 7, starting at 6pm.

It asked followers in a poll what their plans were for the night of the alleged event, with the options: "A - Walking about with an Asda bag over your head, scared of the world. B - Raving your socks to some of the best local DJs around. C - Wrapping up with a hot chocolate acting like you're 80. D - Reminiscing about your glory days looking at old photos."

The Ayrshire SNP candidate for Holyrood was left "raging" by the account and blasted the purported organisers on Twitter.

Gavin Lundy said: "Not to be a massive grass, but I’ve just stumbled across ‘Glasgow Secret Raves’ on Instagram and I’m pretty raging.

"Pulling stuff like this risks any return to normality for everyone else in the foreseeable future. Hope it gets stopped soon."

In other posts, the account teased DJs it claimed would play at the event.

A police spokeswoman said: "Despite overwhelming levels of co-operation and support from communities across Scotland, a small minority of people continue to host or participate in parties and gatherings.

"The Chief Constable has made it clear that we are asking people to take personal responsibility to do the right thing and remember the purpose of these measures is to aid the collective effort to stay safe, protect others and save lives by preventing the virus from spreading."
