AESTHETICS Ayrshire was set up during lockdown by Ann Burnett. The wellness centre has installed Scotland’s second CryoAction chamber, and only whole body cryotherapy chamber in Ayrshire, a form of extreme-cold therapy.

It has been popular with public figures like Kilmarnock Football Club and Rebecca Johnson and Billy Kirkwood from the West FM Breakfast Show.

WHAT IS THE BUSINESS CALLED?

Aesthetics Ayrshire

WHERE IS IT BASED?

Ayr, Ayrshire

WHY DID YOU SET UP THE BUSINESS?

HAVING worked within the NHS and then and worked in another aesthetics clinic, I wanted to start my own clinic that was modern, had the most up to date equipment and not directly targeted at women. All the treatments we offer at Aesthetics Ayrshire are suited to both men and women alike.

Everyone wants to try Cryotherapy as it is such a unique experience, it has taken away the stigma that is attached to attending a clinic that would normally be reserved for just anti-wrinkle injections or fillers etc.

There was no one meeting the needs of the male market and I felt there was a demand for this in Ayrshire.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

CRYOTHERAPY involves standing in a cold chamber at minus 130 degrees Celsius for up to three minutes.

Because the body is exposed to such extreme low temperatures, the coldest temperature ever recorded was minus 89 degrees Celsius in Russia 1983, the bodies natural anti-inflammatory response and endorphins are released.

I’ve had more treatments than most people and have been using it two to three times a week.

I have the best night’s sleep after and it is so calming, as well as getting rid of any aches and pains I may have.

It’s cold for a few minutes but it’s really good for mental health and wellbeing and the high after it is amazing.

In Poland it is used as a prescribed arthritis treatment from health professionals.

WHAT IS YOUR TARGET MARKET?

WE have more male customers than most clinics. They come for Cryotherapy and then realise the clinic is a unisex space and are more willing to learn about treatments they might wish to have.

It is the most unexpected people getting the biggest benefits.

IS SCOTLAND A GOOD PLACE FOR THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS?

SCOTTISH people are more health-conscious than given credit for and used to cold temperatures so enjoy the challenge of the cryotherapy machine.

A few gyms have been instrumental in getting clients educated in it.

It aids with recovery and energy after a workout.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN RUNNING THE BUSINESS?

TRYING to launch a new company within the strange parameters that occur during a world pandemic!

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT RUNNING THE BUSINESS?

PEOPLE have never experienced most of the treatments before, especially whole body cryotherapy, so you get to witness them having a new experience.

People are up for having fun and doing something new for the first time.

WHERE DO YOU HOPE THE BUSINESS WILL BE IN 10 YEARS’ TIME?

I HOPE we are still a leader in innovative equipment and renowned for our warm welcome and effective treatments.
