ANOTHER person has died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

The death of a patient who has recently tested positive brings the total under that measurement to 2701.

A further 1122 cases were also announced, 7.1% of the total number of tests carried out in the past 24 hours.

Some 1052 people are currently in hospital with confirmed coronavirus, which is an increase of 36 from yesterday. Of those, 90 are in intensive care, four more than yesterday.

The First Minister said 428 of the new cases were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 274 in Lanarkshire, 105 in Lothian and 97 in Ayrshire and Arran.

The remaining cases were spread across the other mainland health board regions.

The total number of confirmed cases is now 57,874.

Sturgeon, speaking at the Scottish Government’s briefing, said of the death figures: “It is important though to remember that registration offices tend not to be open as normal over the weekend, so the Sunday and Monday figures are often lower.”

She added: “They reminds us again of how dangerous this virus can be and I want to send my condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one.”
