NICOLA Sturgeon confirmed Scotland recorded a further 1456 coronavirus cases and 15 deaths over the past 24 hours.

Speaking at the Scottish Government daily briefing, the First Minister warned that the case load includes some delayed test results from the previous few days.

Sunday's case number was "artificially low" due to tests at the Glasgow Lighthouse lab being re-routed elsewhere, but the First Minister said all of those delayed results should be reported by tomorrow.

Sturgeon explained that the number of new cases accounts for 19.9% of people newly tested and 11.4% of the total number of tests carried out – from next week the latter measurement will be the sole one reported at the briefings.

Of the new cases 500 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 393 are in Lanarkshire, 198 are in Lothian and 116 are in Ayrshire and Arran. The remaining cases were recorded across nine other health boards, while the Western Isles was the only health board area not to record a new case.

Shetland and Orkney recorded one case each.

The total number of cases recorded in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 49,164.

There are 824 people in hospital with coronavirus, an increase of 70 on the previous day. There were 69 in intensive care, eight more than yesterday.
