THE Ministry of Defence last night refused to confirm or deny suggestions of an outbreak of coronavirus at Scotland’s nuclear submarine base.

The Sunday National was contacted by sources who claimed there were more than 30 cases of the virus at the base. Workers at Faslane on the River Clyde are reported to be self-isolating. It is the second scare at the site.

A Royal Navy spokesperson said: “We do not comment on matters related to submarine operations. The Royal Navy has put in place robust plans to ensure the delivery of key operations in the UK and overseas and we are confident that essential tasks will be maintained throughout during this time.”
