A FURTHER 1009 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Scotland over 24 hours, accounting for 14.1% of people newly tested.

According to the Scottish Government’s daily update there have also been six new deaths recorded among those who tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 28 days.

There were 432 people in hospital with coronavirus, an increase of 35 on the previous day, and 34 people in intensive care, an increase of two.

Of the new cases 357 were in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, 204 were in Lanarkshire, 160 were in Lothian and 71 were in Ayrshire and Arran.

The only health board which did not record a new case was NHS Western Isles.

It comes after new restrictions were put in place across Scotland for 16 days to slow the spread of coronavirus.

In five central belt health boards areas licensed premises have closed, while across the rest of Scotland premises cannot serve alcohol indoors and are only permitted to open between 6am and 6pm.
