NICOLA Sturgeon will give an announcement on new coronavirus restrictions tomorrow afternoon, it has been reported.

It had been reported the update would come today, but Scottish Government sources confirmed to the Scottish Sun the statement would come on Wednesday instead.

It’s was reported that a “circuit breaker” lockdown would see pubs and restaurants temporarily shut and some form of travel ban implemented across Scotland.

An NHS source had been quoted as saying: “We’ve been told to expect it from 7pm on Friday.”

But speaking at the daily briefing this afternoon the First Minister said there will not be another lockdown in Scotland in the foreseeable future.

The First Minister explained that there are no plans for nationwide travel bans, though local restrictions may come into force.

She also ruled out the reimposition of “stay home” guidance, a shutdown of the economy or any form of school closures.

The national clinical director, Jason Leitch, had said a “circuit breaker” could push back the course of the pandemic by 28 days, allowing the Scottish Government to “buy time” before the winter. He stressed to BBC Scotland that it would not be a full lockdown as seen earlier this year.

Scotland’s hospitality industry has urged Sturgeon not to close pubs, bars and restaurants.

Tim Allen, of the Scottish Chamber of Commerce, said: "Businesses cannot be opened and closed like switching on and off a light."
