RIGHT. Stop. Now. I’ve had just about enough of this. Agendas and dodgy conspiracy theories fly over the letters pages of the National daily, needing a sensible air traffic controller to put them back on the right flightpath.

Andy Doig, in his letter of October 2, made a few good points, as he always does. But he also fell into the trap of suggesting a SNP decline only those with personal agendas seem to see.

He accused the party of being in sad decline. Whit!?

Andy sounds like he’s flogging the same deid Unionist horse as the Tories he seeks to defeat. Trotting out destructive propaganda when we are so close to independence is doing Westminster’s job for it.

Please stop.

Andy, God bless him, must have a helluva lot of time on his hands as he continually helps fill the letters column of this fine newspaper with this kind of rubbish.

Where does he hope this will lead?

C’mon Andy, the SNP and it’s leadership have all the usual faults of human beings. Blinking hell, given your own extensive political – and recent – experience you should know that.

Imagine if letter writers dwelt on your recent political past! We don’t, cos we know you and most other folk are decent, well-meaning folk.

Right now we are on the cusp of independence. Our team has the best – THE BEST – manager. We have the best strategist in Scottish politics at SNP HQ leading the way. We have the best players (activists) and the best vision for a better future for my grandchildren and all the children of Scotland.

We have the best FM in these islands.

We have a receptive electorate, a body of voters now wise to the faults of this so-called Union and willing in ever-increasing numbers to back Scotland and the SNP.

So please, Andy, and all the other negative letter writers, please chuck it. Just stop.

The National is a newspaper, not an in-house platform for moans and groans to be aired in public, where the odd (some very odd) comments or opinions written are accepted as gospel by others, some of whom clearly wish to lob a few grenades in to damage our campaign.

This nonsense is then repeated and grows arms and legs.

Andy, I too want an independent Scotland where all colours and creeds prosper and thrive. So does every single SNP member I know.

The SNP comes complete with all the faults and frailties of society. The SNP is not perfect. Get over it.

But the SNP is without a doubt the only vehicle able to deliver independence.

It’s a decent, lawful, democratic political party full of good people with one central objective.

Stop damaging the campaign. If you have opinions that can hurt the campaign, then keep them to yourself rather than broadcast them to our opponents.

Later, after independence, fill yer boots!

I AGREE with the sentiments expressed by Dave McEwan Hill (Letters, October 2) concerning the sometimes frustrating necessity to put party loyalty and the primary target of independence ahead of personal concerns and complaints.

I found particular resonance with his remarks about “independence supporters” with with axes to grind, very often of a personal nature, against the SNP and its leaders. And often by people who I am glad are not in the SNP.

I wondered why this struck such a chord, then I turned the page and saw the letter from Andy Doig.
