How to Beat – Fat (C4, 8pm)

WITH a recent study suggesting that the average Briton starts and fails 189 diets in their lifetime, Kate Quilton and Dr Javid Abdelmoneim enlist 10 volunteers with a history of failed dieting to take part in an experiment. Can adopting simple techniques help them to lose weight and eat more healthily in just six weeks?

The Apprentice Best Bits (BBC1, 9pm)

BACK in August, it was announced that the boardroom remains closed and that the reality show will not be airing this year. The BBC has come up with a way that we can still get our fix and over the next six weeks fans will be able to see memorable tasks and boardroom bust-ups. As well as highlights from the past 15 years, there will be brand-new insights from Lord Sugar and his lieutenants Karren Brady and Claude Littner. The series begins by remembering some of the most unforgettable candidates – those sharp-suited entrepreneurs that made fans laugh, cry and cringe with their unfailing self-belief.

Council House Britain (C4, 9pm)

IT’S council emergency officer Angela’s job to provide a safety net for Southwark’s most vulnerable tenants. She installs a personal alarm for 85-year-old Betty who has been having falls lately and whose husband Fred can’t lift and help her. Meanwhile, housing officer Charmain has twisted her ankle and is hobbling through her estates doing her safety checks on crutches.

First Dates (C4, 10pm)

MAITRE D’ Fred Sirieix and his team return to the restaurant, ensuring that romance is at the top of the menu. First up is 24-year-old party animal Nikita, from Swansea, who’s looking for someone just as wild. Enter Rhys, an engineer from the Welsh valleys, also known for his antics during a night out. Part-time fitness instructor and disco dancer Selvin meets Donna, who seeks a man who can make her laugh, and former Playboy bunny and model Kelly-Ann goes for a meal with motorbike daredevil Stephen.
