HAVE you ever made it to Friday and thought to yourself: “There’s just too much news happened this week. I wish somebody could just sum it up for me in a quick 10-minute podcast that told me everything I need to know about independence and Scottish politics.”
Well – you’re in luck. Today, The National is launching State of the Union, a brand new bitesize podcast to keep Scots up to date with all the latest developments in Scotland’s campaign to be an independent country.
Hosted by Stephen Paton and featuring the latest updates from Holyrood, Westminster and beyond, we’re excited to bring you this new addition to our ever-expanding digital service.
Stephen says: “State of the Union aims to give National readers the chance to catch up on all the news and analysis you may have missed in a bite-sized pro-indy briefing every week.
“After all, with polling consistently showing independence is comfortably the majority position in Scotland, now is the time to stay informed and continue making the case for leaving the UK.
“So join me every Friday morning for another look at the state of the Union as we count down the remaining days of our so-called family of equal nations.”
The podcast will be available on our website and via our Soundcloud channel after 12pm.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
