EMPTY chairs are being transformed into an artwork at an Edinburgh theatre to symbolise the audiences who have been missing during lockdown.
The #TakeASeat installation in the foyer of the Royal Lyceum Theatre opened yesterday, the day on which its autumn season would have commenced.
Theatres remain closed across Scotland and possible re-opening on October 5 no looks unlikely to go ahead.
The installation consists of up 100 chairs. It will be animated with sound and light at standard performance times – 7.30pm Monday to Saturday, with matinees at 2.30pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The public can view the artwork – created by theatre, lighting and sound designers and production managers across Scotland – from the outside only until October 3, with coronavirus precautions in place.
