THE First Minister has confirmed a further 203 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

This figure accounts for 4.4% of all people newly tested in Scotland yesterday.

The provisional data shows there were 69 new cases in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, 30 in the Lothian area and 29 in the Lanarkshire area. The remaining 25 cases were spread across the eight mainland health board areas.

Nicola Sturgeon said there were 61 people in hospital with the virus, an increase of nine on yesterday.

She also reported one further death of a patient who had tested positive for coronavirus in the last 28 days.

Sturgeon told viewers that a further two countries have been added to the quarantine list. Anyone arriving into Scotland from Slovenia or Guadalupe must self-isolate for 14 days.

The First Minister also advised Scots not to travel to parts of the UK currently facing additional coronavirus restrictions.

Sturgeon warned that the percentage of cases in the older population is beginning to rise.

She said she is giving Scotland notice that the coming days will be critical in deciding hard and difficult decisions.

She asked people to “rigorously” follow the current rules and advice in order to avoid a new full lockdown.
