RUTH Davidson is set to take on a new job as the host of a weekly show on radio station LBC.

The Scottish Tory MSP will present the new Sunday show as well as a podcast, and all profits will go to charity.

Davidson, the Scottish ToriesHolyrood group leader, will step down as an MSP next year before taking her seat in the House of Lords. Until then she is representing the party in the Scottish Parliament while leader Douglas Ross remains an MP at Westminster.

Ross also has a second job as a football referee. He was criticised last month after it emerged he skipped a VJ Day event in his constituency to work as a linesman at a Scottish Premiership game.

The Moray MP later apologised, saying the decision was “wrong”.

Last year Davidson faced controversy when she accepted a £50k job with a PR firm which required just 24 days of work a year. She planned to do this role while also serving as an MSP, but later decided not to proceed with the job following fierce criticism.

Announcing its latest programme of presenters, LBC said: "An Inconvenient Ruth will see her interview some of the UK’s most notable figures. First to face Ruth will be former prime minister Tony Blair."

Davidson said: "I'm excited to spend an hour on LBC talking to fascinating people about their life, their work and the change they're making to the world.

“From scientists to celebrities, artists to athletes and all sorts of world-beating figures in between, I'll be asking them to share their story – the hard times as well as the good.”

Explaining how profits will be given to Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Edinburgh, the MSP said: "Podcasts are new to me, and a bit different, but I hope this one sees lots of downloads so we can raise money for Maggie’s in Edinburgh.

“Covid has been so hard on people suffering from cancer – and on the charities which support them – and every little bit of fundraising help can make a difference.”
