THE Scottish Government and the SNP leadership realise that they must deliver on a referendum, says James Dornan.

The SNP MSP has also been chatting about his decision not to resign from Holyrood after all on this week's edition of the Wee Ginger Dugcast.

He had originally decided to retire from his role as MSP of Glasgow Cathcart earlier in the year, before reversing his plans in July.

But a row ensued after it became apparent that the NEC would not allow Dornan to stand in the constituency as a result of new rules being introduced on all-women shortlists in seats where the incumbent MSP was standing down, even though he wished to change his mind.

He told the podcast that a major factor in his change of heart was the knowledge that the next Scottish Parliament will be the "independence parliament".

When asked about critics on social media questioning the likelihood of a referendum in the event of another SNP Government, Dornan said: "If anyone saw and read what she said, I don't think that the First Minister has left herself a lot of wriggle room.

"She'd done that deliberately. She's said, 'I'm serious here'.

"The truth is if we get to the other side of this election and we get the result it looks like we'll get - independence parties having a majority - if we go for a section 30 order and it's knocked back and we don't continue to fight for independence, then the party is in real trouble."
