THE organisers of the Long Walk to Freedom 1320 have named the first three people who will be taking part in the event that begins on September 18 at Eilean Donan Castle.

Karl J Claridge and Ever Uan Beag – better known to Yessers as Wren Chapman – will both walk the full 1320 miles in Walk No 1, while Diane Mathieson will walk 500 miles on Walk No 3.

Organisers, The Round Table, said they are working in partnership with the Core Team at the Scottish Digital Covenant to host the Long Walk to Freedom. The event is a combination of three planned walking routes covering the length and breadth of Scotland, from Culloden to Coldstream, Thurso to Turnberry.

“We aim to walk through every city and every town,” they said.

The original 500-mile walk two years ago ended with the participants leading the 100,000-strong march and rally for independence in Edinburgh in October 2018. Inspired by that walk and the fact that this year sees the 700th anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath, this year will see not one but three separate walks.

The Round Table said: “In order to cover as much ground as possible, and also to acknowledge the importance of the year, we have developed a walking route covering 1320 miles – from Eilean Donan Bridge to Eyemouth. We intend to inform everyone about our right to use our sovereignty, as signed and sealed in the Declaration of Arbroath that very year, our Claim of Right.

“The second 700-mile route was designed to symbolise the anniversary of this declaration in the current year 2020, this anniversary also being the date of our very first event at The Round Table ... the Arbroath700 Digital Rally.

“Finally, we have developed a 500-mile route in celebration of the original idea and also provide recognition to the previous walkers on what they have achieved.”

Full observance of the coronavirus rules will be followed by all participants and the aim is to spread the word of the digital advances towards independence.

The Round Table said: “We are delighted to confirm that Scotland now has its very own fully functioning and fully secure blockchain democracy ready and waiting for us all to use.

“We can take our sovereignty back, we can create our own politics and we can do what we believe is right free from current government constructs and all with just your signature.

“Now the system is built and the Digital Scottish Covenant provides each and every sovereign Scot with a secure platform to use their voice, both individually and collectively, we believe that it is time to get back on the road and give the people what they asked for.”
