A MARCH for independence that was set to take place in Glasgow next month has had to be cancelled.

The Yes2 march that would end at the Hope Over Fear rally in the city on September 19 has been called off in accordance with the First Minister’s continuation of lockdown restrictions.

The organisers had planned the march to be the first after further easing of the lockdown restrictions but always said it would be conditional based on government advice.

They had been working closely with Glasgow City Council (GCC) who would also have had to approve the march and the organisers and council staff had held talks about how to make the event as safe as possible.

The cancellation was announced in a brief statement on the organisers’ website: “After receiving a call from GCC who we work with regarding any events, our coordinator made the decision to cancel our march to Hope Over Fear.

“As the Scottish Government haven’t relaxed any guidelines and by looks of things won’t be, our coordinator is being asked to remove the event notification, otherwise the council will have to seek an order to prohibit it.

“We have no choice but to cancel the march, like we said we would do in accordance with guidelines. We apologise for circumstances out with our control.”
