The National:

THE MP who represents the constituency where Loch Ness is located has hit back at Donald Trump Jr’s comparison of Joe Biden to the Loch Ness Monster.

During the Republican National Convention the US president’s son said the Democratic candidate is like the Loch Ness Monster of the “swamp” in Washington DC.

The Trump campaign has frequently called Washington a “swamp” which needs to be “drained”, and Biden has worked in the capital since the 1970s.

Painting the 77-year-old centrist Democrat as someone on the far-left who wants to heavily tax Americans, Trump Jr said: “Biden has promised to take that money back out of your pocket and keep it in the swamp.

“That makes sense though, considering Joe Biden is basically the Loch Ness Monster of the swamp.

“For the past half-century, he’s been lurking around in there. He sticks his head up every now and then to run for president, then he disappears and doesn’t do much in between."

Trump Jr’s comments were widely mocked as people pointed out that Nessie does not live in a swamp. The Loch Ness contains more freshwater than all of the lakes of England and Wales combined and is definitely not a “swamp” by any means.

Drew Hendry, the SNP MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, added his voice to the criticism of Trump Jr.

“As Nessie’s MP, I would say this comparison wins it for Biden,” he tweeted.

“He’s effectively saying it’s a choice between a globally beloved and sought out icon, which has enhanced the reputation of its homeland and continues to enchant billions – or Donald Trump.”

Biden’s poll lead against Donald Trump has narrowed in recent weeks, but the Democratic candidate still appears to be the favourite to win the November vote.
