ALL staff and pupils at a Dundee school have been told to self-isolate as a coronavirus cluster grows.

Kingspark School closed on Wednesday for a deep clean after eight adults connected to it were found to have Covid-19.

Now all pupils and staff have been told to self-isolate for 14 days after more cases emerged.

A total of 12 cases linked to the school have been identified.

These include one pupil who had been in contact with one of the original cases.

Kingspark, which serves pupils with additional support needs, has around 185 pupils aged five-18, many of whom have physical disabilities or medical conditions.

Anyone who lives with a pupil, such as parents, carers or siblings, should self-isolate for 14 days if they are unable to maintain physical distancing within the household.

All staff and parents have been issued guidance and testing is available for the school workforce.

Kingspark will remain closed for the 14 day period.

Dr Ellie Hothersall of NHS Tayside, said: “Due to the complex needs of the pupils and the very close proximity of care required, the situation at the school is highly complex. We are therefore taking the precaution at this time of advising that all staff self isolate for 14 days from the date they were last on site.

“Additionally, we ask all pupils and their households to self isolate for 14 days from Thursday, 20 August. Guidance has also been shared with the families on what this means for them and how they will be supported.”

Paul Clancy, executive director of Children and Families Services at Dundee City Council, said: “I would like to reassure families that this action is being taken to keep everyone safe. This is our paramount concern and we cannot be complacent.”
