THANK you Annie Harrower-Gray for bringing back wartime memories of Tommy Handley and It’s That Man Again (What’s the BBC stance now on ‘black propaganda’?, August 18)

In spite of it being the butt of much comedy throughout UK society and particularly in England, a public school accent still counts. It is synonymous with authority, social status and the grouse moor.

Hopefully in Scotland it is losing its impact as the move towards independence gathers pace.

As we head towards the long planned “No-Deal Brexit” to ensure the safety of tax havens, the BBC will increasingly tone its news output to reflect the strength of the Union. In the pending global economic crash, poor little Scotland will need supporting.

The reverse is true. Independence would see a rising value in a Scottish currency, backed by a nation which is self-sufficient in water, food and power, environmentally aware and minus an accent-based class system.
