SCOTLAND recorded 71 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

The First Minister said the total number of people to test positive for the virus since the beginning of the pandemic in Scotland is now 19,605.

The provisional information for the latest data is that there are 10 cases in the NHS Grampian area, 16 in the Greater Glasgow area, four in Lanarkshire and 31 in Tayside.

The First Minister said there are five more people in hospital with Covid-19, taking the total to 254.

There are two people in intensive care with the virus in Scotland, the same figure as yesterday.

Sturgeon said there have also been no further deaths of people who have received a positive coronavirus test in the last 28 days.

The First Minister also addressed the outbreak in Tayside, which is linked to the 2 Sisters food processing plant.

Sturgeon said 600 workers at the plant have been tested so far. There have been 68 positive tests, 59 of those are employees and nine of their contacts.

Anyone living in a household with a factory worker from a food processing plant in Coupar Angus has been told to isolate at home until August 31.

The new guidance, which also includes children in those households and anyone who has had a negative test, has been issued after a meeting of the incident management team which is working with the Scottish Government.
