A SECOND poll showing majority support for Scottish independence has been published in the space of a few hours.

The new Savanta ComRes poll found 54% of Scots back a Yes vote once don’t knows are removed, with 46% opposed.

It comes after a Panelbase survey, based on more up to date research, found 55% support independence, with 45% opposed.

The Savanta ComRes poll also puts the SNP on track for a landlside victory at next year’s Holyrood election.

Based on the results, the party would attract 51% of constituency votes and 43% of list votes. The Tories were the closest opposition, on 24% and 21% respectively.

Nicola Sturgeon said the result Savanta ComRes poll is “very encouraging”.

Of the Panelbase surey, commissioned by Business for Scotland, she posted: “And this one – slightly more up to date – is even more encouraging.

“Lots of work to do, fellow #Yes supporters, to persuade even more people – but the momentum is very clearly with us.”

The Savanta ComRes poll was carried out from August 6-13, while the Panelbase research was carried out from August 12-18.
