ANOTHER 50 people have tested positive for Covid-19, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

No further deaths were recorded among coronavirus patients in the past 24 hours, though a death from April 21 has been added to the total retrospectively, bringing it up to 2492.

The new coronavirus cases represent 0.9% of the people who were newly tested and takes the total to 19,457.

Provisional information suggests 50 of the new cases are in Grampian, 10 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, three are in Lanarkshire and 12 are in Tayside.

Some 248 patients are currently in hospital with the virus, six fewer than yesterday.

Of those, two are in intensive care, one fewer than yesterday.

The First Minister also announced the latest NRS figures, which include deaths where coronavirus is a suspected or contributory cause of death.

They show that by August 16, the total number of registered deaths was 4216.

Of those, three were registered in the week up to Sunday, a decrease of two from the week before. It’s the lowest weekly since the pandemic began.

One of those three deaths was in a care home, one fewer than in the previous week.

Speaking at the Scottish Government’s coronavirus briefing, the FM said: "These figures continue to speak of the progress we've made in recent months however they also remind us that more than 4000 people have lost their lives to this virus, and that people are still losing their lives to it.

“Every single death is a source of grief and heartbreak and my condolences, again, go to anybody who has suffered loss."
