QPR boss Mark Warburton is convinced Lyndon Dykes has ‘huge potential’ and will become a Scotland star.

The former Rangers manager has revealed the Australian striker is ‘very near’ to completing his move south from Livingston. The Lions accepted a £2 million bid over the weekend, with the in-demand 24-year-old travelling to London to finalise the formalities of his switch.

Barnsley saw a couple of seven-figure offers knocked back, whilst Rangers, Middlesbrough, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Cardiff City were all credited with an interest in the former Queen of the South marksman.

He has yet to declare where his international future lies, with Steve Clarke having held ‘positive' talks with the Gold Coast-born player, who qualifies for Scotland thanks to his parents. But Warburton is in no doubt Dykes could go on to be a hero of the Tartan Army.

He said: “He’s a player who I think will go on to become an international player for Scotland and be their number nine. And I think he’s got huge potential. He probably didn’t benefit from an academy education, so he’s hungry to learn.

“He’s got a good physical presence, he’s a willing worker and has lots of ability.

Warburton added to Sky Sports: “So, I’m really looking forward - hopefully, if everything goes through - to working with him."
