A 24-YEAR-OLD woman suffered a serious facial injury when she was struck in the face during a "horrific" unprovoked assault in the street.
The woman was out with friends when she was attacked in Paisley at around 11pm on Saturday night.
She was taken to the town's Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
Police are appealing for information about the incident, which happened at the junction of King Street and Douglas Street.
Detective Inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID, said: "Extensive inquiries are ongoing after a 24-year-old woman was seriously assaulted in Paisley.
"The victim was out with friends when she was subjected to a horrific and nasty assault.
"This attack was completely unprovoked and we are very keen to trace the individual responsible.
"The victim suffered a very serious facial injury when she was struck to the face with some force."
Police believe the suspect fled the scene in the direction of the railway bridge in King Street following the incident.
Officers are keen to trace a man who is described as white, around 5ft 5in and of thin build, with short dark hair.
He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt, dark tracksuit and white trainers, and had a dark scarf covering his face.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them and also appealed to drivers to check dashcam footage to see if they captured anything which may be useful to the investigation.
