NHS GRAMPIAN has identified 32 locations where people with confirmed Covid-19 cases linked to the Aberdeen cluster outbreak have visited recently.

Aberdeen faces new restrictions as the number of confirmed cases in a “significant outbreak” there grew to 54. Nearly 200 people have been contact traced in connection with the confirmed cases.

New restrictions mean people should not travel to Aberdeen, while people living there should not travel further than five miles from their home for recreational purposes.

People in Aberdeen can also not enter each others’ houses. Pubs and restaurants are closing from 5pm tonight.

People currently visiting Aberdeen do not need to leave but should take “extra care” while there and when returning home.

The restrictions will be reviewed a week today and could be extended if necessary.

Nicola Sturgeon said at the Scottish Government daily briefing that the situation in the city should be "the biggest wake-up call" since the early days of the pandemic.

The First Minister told viewers: "There's always a sense of 'we're doing well and it won't happen here.

"It can happen here and it is happening here, in Aberdeen."

Details of the cluster first emerged on Sunday, and was initially linked to people who had visited the Hawthorn Bar on Holborn Street.

However NHS Grampian said this afternoon that they “are aware that a number of detected cases linked to this cluster have visited other venues across Aberdeen”.

Dr Emmanuel Okpo, consultant in public health medicine, said Test and Protect teams are working hard to speak to all detected cases and identify close contacts.

He said: “I cannot stress enough that people should ONLY arrange a test, via the NHS Inform website (or the staff testing scheme if you work in health & social care), if they have the recognised symptoms - fever, a new continuous cough, and/or a loss of your sense of taste or smell.

“If you are identified as a close contact of a detected case you will have to self-isolate for 14 days. Please do not seek a test if you do not have symptoms; getting tested and receiving a ‘not detected’ result will not remove the requirement to self isolate.”
