THE Scottish Government has recorded 22 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in Scotland - taking the total to 18,580 since the beginning of the crisis.
Provisional information indicates that 14 of those are in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area. A possible cluster of cases is being investigated there.
The figures also show there have been no deaths of people who have received a positive coronavirus test in Scotland for the 13th day in a row. Under that measurement the death toll remains at 2491.
According to the NRS – which records fatalities where people die with confirmed and suspected coronavirus, rather than when someone has received a positive test – there were eight coronavirus deaths registered between July 20 and July 26. This was an increase of two on the previous week.
It was the second lowest weekly total for coronavirus deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to the NRS, the number of people to die with confirmed or suspected coronavirus deaths in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic is 4201.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
