CATALONIA has ordered nightlife venues to shut amid fears of a second wave of Covid-19 in Spain.
Spain ended its state of emergency just a month ago, but some of the biggest cities have seen increases in new coronavirus infections.
Now all nightclubs and late-night bars in Catalonia will shut for at least two weeks. It comes after Spain reported 2255 new cases of the virus yesterday, after a daily average of 132 last month.
France is warning citizens not to visit Catalonia, while Norway will begin quarantining people arriving from Spain.
Just this week Scotland added Spain to the list of countries which people can travel from without quarantining upon arrival.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed yesterday that holidaymakers travelling into England will also not need to quarantine, saying Spain would remain on the “safe list” – even its worst affected regions. These are currently Catalonia, Aragon and the Basque country.
In the 14 days up to Thursday Catalonia recorded 8563 new coronavirus cases, accounting for nearly half of the 17,842 detected throughout Spain as a whole over the last fortnight.
