MORE than half of Brits think Nicola Sturgeon has handled the coronavirus crisis better than Boris Johnson.

A YouGov poll that surveyed 4000 people across the UK found 52% think Scotland has handled the pandemic better. Only 10% backed England and 24% said it has been handled the same.

While all the countries in the UK initially had a “four nations” response to the virus and went into lockdown on March 23, there has been divergence since.

Remain voters were the most likely to say Scotland has handled the pandemic best, with 70% of them saying so, compared to 34% of Leave voters.

Only 20% of Tory voters said England had dealt with coronavirus better than Scotland, with 26% backing the FM's approach.

Labour voters were most likely to support the Scottish Government, with 76% saying Sturgeon is doing a good job, followed by 69% of LibDem supporters.

More than three-quarters of Scots (76%) backed Sturgeon's approach, followed by 57% of Londoners, 51% of those in South England, 47% of those in the Midlands and Wales and 44% of those in the North of England.

Younger members of the electorate (18 to 24-year-olds) were most likely to back Sturgeon at 52%, followed by 56% of 25 to 49-year-olds. This is compared to 43% of those above the age of 65.

A similar trend can be seen for England, with only 6% and 8% of 18-24 and 25 to 49-year-olds supporting Johnson's strategy, compared to 13% of over-65s.
