The National:

BORIS Johnson seems to be about as popular as coronavirus in Scotland at the moment.

The Prime Minister the country didn’t vote for, enforcing a hard Brexit we didn’t want, would perhaps be unwise to expect a warm welcome.

But on his Union-saving tour, you’d imagine at least Better Together campaigners would get behind him, right?

Wrong.

Such is his standing among “verminous” Scots, it seems even prominent Unionists would prefer his tour was to outer space rather than Orkney.

Ex-LibDem leader Jim Wallace, who has represented Orkney as both MP and MSP, shared a warm welcome extended to the Prime Minister from his constituents.

The Labour peer, who also served as deputy first minister and had a brief spell as acting first minister in 2001, tweeted: “My former constituents showing appreciation of visit from @BorisJohnson,” accompanied by a picture befitting of the Tory leader.

Unionists had often warned that a debate on independence is too “divisive”.

But it turns out all it took for us all to be brought together was Boris Johnson.
