JUST seven new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Scotland, with no further deaths.

It is the first fall in the number of new cases for five days. The death toll among people who have testing positive for the disease remains 2491.

Of the people who have tested positive, 4146 inpatients have been discharged from hospital since March 5.

Some 299 were in hospital last night, three of whom were in intensive care. There were also seven more people in intensive care with suspected Covid-19.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: “No deaths of people confirmed as having COVID were registered yesterday.

“And 7 new positive cases were confirmed – a reduction compared to recent days, but they will still all be closely examined and contact tracing undertaken as appropriate.”

Earlier, a cluster of cases was confirmed in a North Lanarkshire call centre working on Test and Trace cases for NHS England.

Six cases were reported yesterday, including one employee who said staff were “lax” about following social distancing rules.
