The National:

GEORGE Galloway’s “Alliance for Unity” Twitter page got more than it bargained for when it asked supporters to submit questions this morning.

The former Labour MP announced his intention to return to Scottish politics last week – and has set up the alliance believing it will defeat the SNP at next year’s Holyrood election.

Several polls have shown Nicola Sturgeon’s party is on course to win a majority in the Scottish Parliament next year.

Galloway, who came sixth the last time he stood for election, wants Unionist candidates not to oppose each other in the constituency vote and plans to form joint lists for the second vote.

It goes without saying that Labour, Tories and LibDems have shown zero interest in Galloway’s advice.

The Alliance for Unity Twitter account called on social media users to submit questions to Galloway. As expected, it prompted a lot of references to cats and hats – and not a huge amount from undecided voters …

The parody Independence From Scotland Party profile replied: “ISP here? Can you DM? Looking to defeat the SNP to win independence for Barra. Need some batshit ideas. Tapadh leibh.”

The former MP also received a fair few questions on his “hug” with far-right strategist Steve Bannon last year. Strong socialist credentials there, of course.

Alex Boyd asked the former MP: “Of all the cringe-inducing things you've done in your career to get attention, is this the most desperate?”

Jay H got particularly inquisitive when he wrote: “Where do you get your hats from and do you just have the same hat that you always wear, or do you have a large collection of hats and, if so, do you have a favourite hat in the collection of hats?” These are the things the voters want to know.

Another user asked: "Do you think the car parking facilities at the SECC were adequate for your needs at the 2011 election count when you spent the night there before leaving when you found out you got pumped?"

There were more than 150 replies in just a couple of hours – primarily consisting of independence supporters mocking him, and faceless Unionist accounts calling for the SNP “enemy” to be removed.

The Alliance for Unity account is just following five people and one of them is the former Brexit Party MEP David Coburn.

Although Galloway says the alliance's sole stance is "unity" for now, we’re sure there won’t be any policy rows when Galloway’s new loyal followers find out what he stands for ...
