THE SCOTTISH Government’s daily coronavirus briefings are set to be scaled back for the next two weeks, Nicola Sturgeon has revealed.

For the next two weeks the televised press conference will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The briefings will move back to daily at the start of August in the run up to schools reopening.

Speaking at today's briefing, the First Minister said it was about giving Scottish Government staff a break over the summer holidays.

She said: "When you watch these briefings you see those of us who stand at the podiums, but these briefings involve a lot of work on the part of people behind the camera, and this allows us to give people a bit of a break over the next two weekends in the summer period.

"We will return to five day a week be things at the start of August as we go into that period running up to the return of schools  when I'm sure there will be a lot of questions, not just from the journalists, but parents and young people in particular will want to hear regular updates about our progress there."

The briefings are also set to move to the earlier time of 12.15pm.
