SCOTLAND has recorded the death of one patient who had tested positive for Covid-19 after eight days with no virus fatalities, the First Minister has said.

Speaking at the Scottish Government daily briefing, Nicola Sturgeon announced there had now been 2491 coronavirus deaths recorded under this measure.

Sturgeon added that 11 new cases of the virus had been confirmed, taking the total to 18,384 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Meanwhile there were 630 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus in Scotland last night, an increase of 19 – but a reduction of nine confirmed patients.

There were also six people in intensive care units across Scotland with confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases, which was the same figure as yesterday. However it was an increase of one confirmed case.

Sturgeon said: “Even one death is of course one too many but for us to have had just one registered death of a confirmed case in eight days is a sign of the progress we have made.”

She said any death was a “painful reminder” of the impact of the pandemic, and said her thoughts were with the person’s loved ones and anyone else who has lost someone during the crisis.
