A TOTAL of 4173 people have died in Scotland with confirmed or suspected coronavirus, according to the National Records of Scotland (NRS).

A total of 17 deaths relating to Covid-19 were registered between June 29 and July 5, down 18 on the previous week.

The NRS analysis shows that people from the South Asian ethnic group were almost twice as likely to die with coronavirus than white people.

The statistics are published weekly and account for all deaths registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

They differ from the lab-confirmed coronavirus deaths announced daily by the Scottish Government because they include suspected or probable cases of Covid-19.

The figures were released ahead of Nicola Sturgeon’s daily briefing. Speaking there, the First Minister said there has been one additional death in the last 24 hours.

She added there were seven more confirmed cases of Covid-19.
