THE Scottish Independence Movement (SIM) is set to launch a new initiative next month in which Yes supporters will take part in convoys of vehicles demonstrating the desire for independence across Scotland.

On Saturday, August 1, from 1pm to 3pm, SIM is planning what it calls “Independence Cavalcades” nationwide, with the aim of bringing independence back to the forefront of public attention.

The group said the easing of lockdown during phase one and two has removed some of the coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

A spokesman said: “We will, hopefully, be in phase three soon, whereby the Scottish Government’s route map states that we will be able to “drive beyond your local area for leisure and exercise purposes”.

“By August, we hope to find ourselves in phase four where further relaxation on restrictions and gatherings can be confirmed.

“With all of these indicators going in the right direction, SIM has considered how we can, whilst continuing to follow all government guidelines, kick-start visually the momentum of optimism and determination in continuing our fight for Scotland’s independence and how we can bring together a safe, enclosed gathering of independence activists, whilst maintaining consideration to others, our wider environment, and ourselves.”

Already confirmed are convoys to be held in and around Glasgow, Dumfries and Inverness. Anyone wishing to join these Independence Cavalcades or set one up should contact SIM on their Facebook page.

The spokesman added: “Get your cars flags, car magnets, your favourite Scottish tunes blaring and let us show the citizens in our cities, towns, villages and areas that our drive for independence is and always will be our aim.

“On Saturday, August 1, from 1pm to 3pm, we ask you to gather and take a local journey Full details of routes will be released soon.”
