HAGGIS is the food Brits love to hate, according to a new survey, despite most of the respondents admitting they’ve never tried it.

Scotland’s national dish topped a list of least popular foods after a poll of 2000 adults in the UK.

But more than half of those surveyed said they dislike haggis because of preconceived ideas of what it would taste like.

Another Scottish classic, black pudding, was also on the most hated list.

Japanese dishes sushi and sashimi were second a third respectively.

The research was carried out by OnePoll for Japanese cooking brand Miso Tasty. The firm’s founder Bonnie Chung said: “As suspected, many adults are shying away from delicious ingredients and food types.

“We believe it’s important to inspire those who are a little more cautious in their approach to food to take a leap and explore flavours that complement their existing favourites – and the results show many could do with a little encouragement.”

The top 30 most disliked foods also included olives, pork pies, mayonnaise and even baked beans.

Almost of half of those surveyed said they were set in their ways when it comes to food tastes.

The study also found around one in 20 respondents who had never tried rice or noodles said they don’t like them.

However, more than a quarter of those surveyed said they have become more adventurous with food during lockdown.
