BORIS Johnson has been involved in a car crash outside Parliament.

The Prime Minister was reported to be in a car leaving the Houses of Parliament and onto Parliament Square in Westminster when a protester ran out into the road.

The driver of the car was seen to hit the brakes suddenly to avoid the demonstrator, causing the security detail in a Range Rover following behind to crash into the back of the first vehicle.

Anti-Brexit protester Steve Bray filmed the incident which showed both cars leaving the scene quickly with a noticeable dent in Johnson's Jaguar.

The Metropolitan Police said there were no reported injuries and a man had been arrested for offences under Section 5 of the Public Order Act and for obstructing the highway.

The vehicles drove off shortly afterwards in the direction of Downing Street, with a large dent visible on the rear of the Jaguar.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Two police vehicles were involved in a collision in Parliament Square.bThe police vehicles were part of a security movement.

"A pedestrian is reported to have stepped onto the road, causing the vehicles to suddenly stop, which has led to two of the vehicles in the convoy being involved in a damage-only collision.

"No injuries have been reported."

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden told the daily Downing Street coronavirus press conference that the Prime Minister was "wholly unscathed and I believe everyone else escaped safely from that situation".
