IAN Blackford has hit out at Chancellor Rishi Sunak for saying "there is no playbook" to get the UK through the coronavirus crisis.

On the Andrew Marr show, Sunak was asked about reviewing the two metre distance rule, saying Boris Johnson has ordered a "comprehensive review" of the rule in England.

"There is no playbook for this", he told the show.

"Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance [the Government's chief scientific adviser] throughout all of this have provided advice to ministers.

"Ultimately it is for ministers. We are the people who are elected to make decisions in this country. People should hold us responsible and accountable for making those decisions.

"I think that people are comforted and have confidence in those decisions if they know that we are taking advice from our scientists."

Blackford hit back at Sunak, saying he "ought to think of his use of language".

He tweeted: "On #marr @RishiSunak  just said there is not a playbook to help us through this crisis. A playbook? It is not a game and he really ought to think of the use of his language. No wonder faith and trust in @BorisJohnson and his Government is falling."

Sunak was also asked about reports that the UK's economy will be more damaged from the pandemic than any other country in the developing world.

He claimed the UK will "emerge at the top of the list" among the large world economies over the next two years.

Reports this week of an economic recession sparked fears in the UK, following news that the country's economy shrank by 20.4% in April - the largest monthly contraction on record.

This was followed up by a report by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) showing that a slump in Britain's GDP would outstrip the drops in France, Italy, Spain, Germany and the US.
