A FURTHER 18 people have died in Scotland after being diagnosed with Covid-19, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

It brings the total under that measurement to 2291.

The First Minister said 15,185 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland, up by 29 from 15,156 the day before.

There are 1200 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19, a decrease of 69.

Of these, 36 were in intensive care, a fall of four.

Sturgeon, speaking at the Scottish Government’s daily briefing, said of the updated mortality data: "Yesterday was a bank holiday and registration may have been lower, so that should be taken into account when considering today's figures."

“Each one of these of course is not just a figure, each one is an individual whose loss is being grieved by many. As I always do, I want to send my condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one to this virus."
