AN SNP MP has suggested that the story of Dominic Cummings travelling 250 miles during lockdown could be a smokescreen.

Ronnie Cowan, who represents Inverclyde, tweeted that the Westminster Government could be hiding something much bigger.

He said: "I have many concerns around the entire Cummings fiasco including what’s the story the @GOVUK  don’t want us to be concentrating on?"

Boris Johnson's top aide denied he had broken the “spirit” of the rules by travelling 250 miles to his parents' house during lockdown and said he had not offered his resignation to the Prime Minister.

He told a press briefing: “No, I have not offered to resign. I have not considered it.

“I think it’s reasonable to say that other people would have behaved differently, in different ways, in this whole situation."
