A SCOTTISH mum has thanked the First Minister for sending birthday wishes to her daughter, who had to celebrate her 21st in lockdown this week.
Mum Margaret said Nicola Sturgeon’s positive words boosted spirits for the family, who had been disappointed to cancel Kirsty’s planned celebrations with family and friends.
Margaret said Strathclyde student Kirsty “admires Nicola as a strong female role model and politician” – so her well wishes made the day “that bit more special”.
In her email to Margaret, Sturgeon said: “Please wish Kirsty a very happy 21st birthday – she sounds like a very strong and gutsy young woman.
“I know that lockdown has been tough – and celebrating any birthday but particularly such a milestone one under these restrictions is really difficult.
“But I hope she has a great day with family is able to celebrate properly soon.
“I wish her every success with her studies too.
“Best wishes to you and all the family too.”
Margaret said she had been impressed that the SNP leader took the time to send her wishes to Kirsty this week.
She went on: “The FM of Scotland took time out of her busy schedule to wish my daughter a 21st birthday during lockdown.
“Her leadership and daily briefings keep our family going during these uncertain times and for her to do this made my daughter’s day.
“Nicola Sturgeon is a world-class leader and she deserves to be recognised for what she has done during this pandemic for Scotland. She is human after all and has a family too.”

Sturgeon spoke earlier this week about how she is desperate to see her parents again as she urged Scots to be cautious when deciding whether to visit family after lockdown is eased.
Under the plans people will be able to meet up with friends or family from another household outdoors potentially as soon as May 28.
However the First Minister advised people to “use judgement” when considering making such journeys.
