THE Scottish Government plans to send pupils back to school from August 11, leaked plans have indicated.
Teachers would return in June to prepare for a new system of “blended learning”, the document seen by the Daily Record says. Blended learning would see pupils spend half their school time in class and the other half at home.
The blueprint, put together by Education Secretary John Swinney and experts, could also see pupils starting primary and secondary school allowed access to the school estate from June.
A senior education source told the paper: “Trying to reopen schools in a pandemic was always going to be a big challenge but lots of effort has gone into this plan.
“It is obviously dependent on the science but if the scientific advice is positive then this plan can be implemented and children will be able to return to school safely.”
The UK Government has clashed with teaching unions over school reopenings, with Boris Johnson aiming to get places of learning in England up and running for some age groups from June 1.
The new Scottish Government plans show the First Minister has taken a more cautious approach.
